This is a picture of the hallway before we moved in.

Step one,
Paint walls white.
Paint walls white.
Step two
Remove all carpet, Replace with hickory hardwoods
Step three
Makeover doors until money arrives to replace them.
Enter sandpaper and 8 cans of $0.97 Home Depot black spray paint.
Step four
Replace light fixture
(Not my favorite, but we had an extra on hand..and I like free)
Step five
Hang pictures on the walls.
(work in progress..Still need a few more frames to fill in the gaps)

(sshhh! don't look at the spot on the wall I have to paint over, IF YOU DON"T LOOK AT IT, ITS NOT THERE!! =D )
Plus I put a little frame around it to camoflage it.
Total cost:
$8 for the spray paint

Lookin good! You might want to check out Home Depot and Lowes' clearance sections for interior doors that they just want to get rid of. You can find oak 6-panel for around $50 each.

Great tip. I really want 2 panel solid wood doors, it just isn't in the budget, maybe later this year..
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, the hardwood is throughout the house, minus the kitchen. (Kitchen is tile, hopefully will replace that later this year with either matching hardwood or cork flooring)
Looks awesome - huge difference!! Changing out our HIDEOUS hall light fixtures was one of the best things we did.
